Hindsight is 20/20 and without the benefit of that, let’s use a different word: perspective. Perspective is recognizing that while there are periods of decline in the stock market, they do not last forever. Keeping an eye on long term trends, aligning our asset allocation with our time horizon and risk tolerance, and maintaining perspective – the idea is to buy low, sell high – not panic and sell low. Perspective is recognizing that while there are viruses that are scary, statistically there are other diseases that have killed or sickened far more people and the viruses do wane through precautions and proactivity. This, too, shall pass. Each person’s track record for getting through bad days is 100%! In the meantime, follow professional advice from trusted sources. Each of us is to do what we can to stay healthy, following recommendations of the CDC and other medical experts – not Aunt Martha, not some snake oil salesperson, not a favorite talk show host.
